One preoccupation runs through all of it: the movement of line through space. These are the works Ray is making now, north of Auckland, New Zealand — carbon fibre ribbons that hold a thrown line still, in walnut or oak veneer and marine-grade pleather; corten and cast steel that stand outside and weather there; mirror-polished stainless steel; bronze; oak and walnut, laminated and hand-finished; and kinetic works that turn to the wind, never to a motor. Most belong to a series, and the next in a series can be commissioned for a particular wall or garden.
