Ray Haydon

“Imagine a ribbon thrown in the air, the way it loops and curves — that’s the effect I’m trying to achieve.”

Ray Haydon was born in Auckland in 1950 and came to sculpture after forty years as a jeweller, silversmith and craftsman. His first exhibition, in March 2006, sold out in its first week. He has shown with Sanderson Contemporary almost every year since, and more than 650 of his sculptures are held in private collections in New Zealand and overseas.

He lives and works at Sandspit, north of Auckland, where he and his wife Sarah have built a sculpture garden around the house and workshop. Some of the works are kinetic. They turn to the wind, never to a motor.
